Janitor

Job Type: Full-time, Permanent.

Salary: Competitive

Location: Birkenhead

Start Date: Immediate / Following notice period

Hours: Typical working hours are 9:30 am – 6:00 pm Monday to Thursday and Friday 9:30 am – 3:45 pm.

This role will suit someone who will make the job their own, takes pride in the College environment and is able to multi-task to ensure all tasks are completed effectively to the highest of standards.

Required Skillset:  Full, clean driving licence for use of fleet vehicle.  Self-motivated with good time management.  Discretion around sensitive/confidential information.  Customer service orientated.  Good level of DIY skills.  Ability to work safely.

Training provided:  Safeguarding, Child Protection &  Prevent.  Equality, Diversity & Inclusion.  GDPR.  Health & Safety including COSHH, manual handling, working at height, and lone worker.  Fork lift truck.  First Aider.  Fire Warden.

Duties include:

Key holder for daily lock up and building security.  Patrol of premises to ensure all windows and entry points are alarmed, secure and comply with fire regulations.  Car park/gate lock up.

With training, to gain a working knowledge of power down/shut off procedures for large equipment and essential services.

To comply with College’s duty for Safeguarding, Prevent and duty of care to all learners, staff and visitors:  to monitor access and egress of students via learner entrance;  to appropriately challenge unknown persons or unfamiliar behaviours.

To act as point of contact to liaise with visiting contractors, suppliers/vendors or third party operators.  Account for same group(s) in event of a fire/drill.  Ensure appropriate paperwork in place, e.g., permit to work.

Take a proactive lead on janitor duties as set out.

Monitoring inventory levels for cleaning supplies, tools and equipment to account for products used and to comply with maintenance and health and safety records.

Cleaning and replenishing stock for kitchen areas, office based drinks machines and water coolers.  Cleaning and restocking supplies in all lavatories.

Own cleaning duties working alongside existing Cleaner and covering their leave.  Regular inspection and cleaning of learners toilets.  Cleanliness and hygiene is especially important in College as a public space with a high risk of disease transmission.

General duties in support of the workshop e.g., cleaning spillages.

Assist with twice yearly deep clean, i.e., learner zones when students are on shutdown, defrosting freezers etc.

Proper disposal of waste including recycling to minimise the building’s environmental impact.

Support the Facilities team who take the lead on main projects/large maintenance work.

Minor repairs and basic maintenance tasks e.g., changing light bulbs, lubricating hinges, touch up paint jobs and responding to emergency tasks such as leaks.

Moving office furniture and equipment as required.  Setting up for conference/events.

Dealing with ad hoc goods in/deliveries, some of which may require use of Fork Lift Truck.

Driving fleet vehicle as required to collect supplies, transport visitors etc.  Car park marshalling as required.

Grounds maintenance including mowing lawns, trimming hedges etc. to maintain a clean and attractive outdoor environment.

Undertake training to become a designated First Aider and Fire Marshall.

Ad hoc duties as and when required, such as:  Receiving, setting out and storing learner breakfast provision during term time.  Ensure a smooth handover/closure to Duty Manager on occasion of evening classes or occasional after hours events.

You will be a time served Mechanical Engineer/Fitter and hold a Level 2 or above in Engineering. Maths and English. You must possess or be willing to work towards relevant teacher/assessor qualifications which will be fully funded, if required. You will be a team player and an effective communicator with the ability to cope under pressure and happy to work on a variety of tasks.

The role is diverse and covers a number of different elements, including:

Teaching, Learning and Assessment: delivery of practical and theory sessions to meet the requirements of the business, the planning of lessons and learning plans effectively, making use of resources and curriculum.

Verification: maintain all records and work-pieces, track progress for each student in your designated group/s and carry out essential marking for assessments.

Learner Reviews: work within the team to develop and regularly update learner ‘off-the-job’ learning plans in conjunction with the learner/s. Work within the relevant team to contribute timely information to the individual’s ‘training officer’ to support with performance reviews

Learner Support: ‘first line’ academic and pastoral support, working with the team in identifying any high or additional needs students, etc

Technical & Administration: identifying opportunities for CPD, improving competency, fulfilling ESFA requirements regarding tracking attendance, support with recruitment and promotion of the brand.

We wish to recruit a Mechanical Engineering Tutor to join the successful team at The Engineering College, delivering a high quality learning experience to engineering apprentices ensuring they reach their maximum educational and developmental potential. This role will suit an experienced tutor or a qualified electrician looking to progress into a teaching role.

You will be a time served  Mechanical Engineer/Fitter with Machining experience (turning, drilling and milling) and hold a Level 2 or above in Engineering. Maths and English. You must possess or be willing to work towards relevant teacher/assessor qualifications which will be fully funded, if required. We are looking to recruit an Engineering Tutor specialising in MIG Welding Heavy Plate.

This role will suit an experienced tutor or a qualified Plate Welder looking to progress into a teaching role.

The role is diverse and covers a number of different elements, including:

Teaching, Learning and Assessment: delivery of practical and theory sessions, planning schemes of work and lesson plans effectively making use of resources and curriculum against a set timetable.

Verification: maintain all records and work-pieces, track progress for each student in your designated group/s and carry out essential marking for assessment.

Learner Reviews: work within the team to develop and regularly update learner ‘off the job’ learning plans in conjunction with the learner. Work within the relevant Combined Engineering Trade Team to contribute timely information to the individual’s Training Officer to support with performance reviews.

Learner Support: first line academic and pastoral support, working with the team in identifying any high or additional needs students.

Technical & Administration: identifying opportunities for CPD, improving competency, fulfilling ESFA requirements regarding tracking attendance, support with recruitment and promotion of the brand.

Additional team responsibilities are shared within the organisation, including high quality health and safety provision, support and promotion of Equality and Diversity within this industry.

DESIRED EXPERIENCE

  • Experience in delivering Level 2 and Level 3 in your chosen discipline
  • Level 3 and above in Engineering discipline
  • Possess or be willing to work towards relevant teacher/assessor qualifications.
  • Level 2 in Maths or English
