This course has been produced by the ECITB as a result of requests from employers across the Engineering Construction Industry (ECI). The content has been
developed by a subject specialist to meet a specification agreed by an Industry Working Group made up of employer representatives from the Engineering Construction Industry.
The aim is to enable an individual to understand the current best practice and legal requirements for Managing Safely in the Engineering Construction Industry.
Who is the course for?
The course is aimed at Managers and Supervisors from the Engineering Construction Industry who passed the ECITB’s Supervisor Training Module 4 – Safety, Health & the Environment (IOSH Managing Safely in the Engineering Construction Industry) course, and hold an IOSH Managing Safely in the Engineering Construction Industry certificate issued less than three years prior to taking this refresher course.

Supervisors’ responsibilities / duties
• Reasons for Managing Safely:
• Ethical & Moral
• Day to Day responsibilities
Legal and Best Practice
• Changes to legislation and regulations in the last three
• Current best practice
Skills for Managing Safely
• Hazards and Risks
• Permit to Work systems
Eligible delegates will undertake an end-of-course assessment which, if passed, will result in an IOSH Managing Safely in the Engineering Construction Industry certificate being issued provided existing IOSH certificates are less than three years old.
Those who successfully complete the course and the end of course assessment will receive a Certificate of Training from the ECITB and eligible delegates will
receive an IOSH Managing Safely in the Engineering Construction Industry certificate provided their current certificate was issued less than three years before they attend the refresher course. IOSH certificates are only available to those holding an existing ECITB/IOSH certificate which is less than three years old at the time of the course. The ECITB/IOSH certificate can be renewed every three years by attending this course providing these conditions are met.
